“Influencer Dylan Mulvaney Honored at Streamy Awards for Advocacy and Resilience”

“Dylan Mulvaney, the social media influencer who faced a transphobic backlash earlier this year after entering a partnership with Bud Light, received recognition on Sunday night at the Streamy Awards, an event that honors social media creators.

Mulvaney was honored with the breakout creator award at the ceremony held at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles. In an emotional acceptance speech, Mulvaney urged the audience to be strong allies for the LGBT community. They emphasized the similarities between trans individuals and social media stars, both often being underestimated. Mulvaney also alluded to the controversy surrounding the Bud Light partnership, which was discontinued due to organized homophobic complaints. They called on the Streamy audience to use their influence to spread anti-hate messages and encouraged unity. Mulvaney concluded by saying, “If we can influence people to buy a $25 smoothie at Erewhon, we can also do this. I’m going to go have a beer.”

The 13th Streamy Awards, hosted by YouTube personality MatPat, showcased several top nominees, including AMP, Ryan Trahan, Jay Shetty, Mikayla Nogueira, HasanAbi, and Kai Cenat. Many attendees brought older children to help them identify the social media stars present.

Acceptance speeches largely deviated from conventional showbiz acknowledgments, with most winners expressing gratitude in various forms. However, there were deeply heartfelt moments, such as TikTok star Chris Olsen’s speech. He spoke candidly about his journey to sobriety and the positive changes it brought to his life.

The nonprofit organization Invisible People received the Elevate Prize for Social Good for its YouTube coverage of the chronic homeless population’s growth. Founder Mark Horvath discussed the continuing homelessness crisis in Los Angeles due to the exorbitant cost of housing, urging connection and action within communities.

Kai Cenat was named Streamer of the Year for his work on Twitch, while YouTuber MrBeast (Jimmy Donaldson) secured the Creator of the Year award for the fourth consecutive year, despite not being present at the event. Michelle Khare’s YouTube series “Challenge Accepted” won Show of the Year, with Khare emphasizing the substantial effort that goes into creating each episode.

Meghan Trainor earned the Rolling Stone Sound of the Year award for her hit song “Made You Look,” and the event recognized a range of creators across different categories.

The Streamy Awards are organized by Dick Clark Productions and Tubefilter, with Dick Clark Productions being owned by Penske Media Corp, the parent company of Variety.
